How do I download and install Qontacts?

You can download Qontacts by visiting the download page from your mobile web browser. The server will auto detect your device, and push the right version of Qontacts to you.

The download takes very long time to start on my Nokia device?

Although the application itself is as small as ~64kb, with some Nokia devices, you may face long screen of "preperaing to download". This is a known issue with some Nokia models. You just have to wait, the wait can take up to 5 minutes.

Is Qontacts supported on Windows mobile?

Qontacts is not officially supported on Windows Mobile. However, you can download and install Qontacts using the following steps.

To get Qontacts running on a Windows Mobile device, you need to use the Java version of the application "JAR".

1. Download the Java version of Qontacts from here, extract Qontacts.zip, then copy "Qontacts.jar" to your phone memory.

2. Download JavaFX from here.

   

3. Extract the javafx_mobile1.2_windows.zip file, go to "dist\bin\" then copy the file SUN_JAVAFX.CAB to your phone memory.

   

4. On your phone, click on SUN_JAVAFX.CAB.

   

5. Next...

   

6. Next...

   

7. Finish and restart "restart not necessary but always a good idea…"

   

8. Now click on the "Qontacts.jar".

   

9. Yes…

   

10. Yes…

    

11. On your Windows Mobile device, Press "Menu".

    

12. Start…

    

13. Yes…

    

14. Another Yes…

    

15. Review the contacts that will be updated.

    

16. With the names selected, click "Menu", then "Update Selected".

    

17. Press "OK".

    

18. Congratulations!

Is Qontacts supported on Maemo?

Yes. Qontacts is very well supported on the Maemo operating system, which powers some of Nokia smartphones, like Nokia N900, and Internet Tablets.

To install Qontacts on your Maemo device, you need to have the latest software update release PR1.2 (V10.2010.19-1). Once you have updated your Maemo software, follow these simple steps.

1. You need to add and enable a new application catalog, which is the Maemo extras-devel.

2. Go to Application manager –> Application catalogs –> New

   

   

3. Fill the following information to enable the Maemo extras-devel catalog.

   • Catalog name: Maemo Extras-devel
   • Web address: http://repository.maemo.org/extras-devel/
   • Distribution: fremantle
   • Components: free non-free

   

4. Once the new catalog refreshes, go to Download -> Utilities. Start typing qontacts, and you will find it there. Just click on it to install it.
